All Fireworks Illegal in City of Laguna Beach Violators Will Be Cited and Face Fines

Laguna Beach, CA – The City of Laguna Beach is reminding visitors and community members that ALL kinds of fireworks are illegal at all times within the City of Laguna Beach. This includes “Safe and Sane” type fireworks that may be legal to purchase in other cities. To protect public
safety and slow the spread of COVID-19 by discouraging large gatherings, the City’s 2020 public fireworks display is also canceled.

The Laguna Beach Police Department, Fire Department and Marine Safety Departments will have extra officers working over the Fourth of July weekend looking for fireworks violations and citing
or arresting violators accordingly.

It is unlawful for any person to possess or use any fireworks within the City of Laguna Beach. Any member of the Police Department or the Fire Department can seize any fireworks, and persons in possession of or discharging fireworks of any kind – including firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, roman candles, or anything that flies/shoots through the air – may be cited for a misdemeanor offense, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 and jail time of up to 6 months.

The Laguna Beach Police, Fire, and Marine Safety Departments will be strictly enforcing all City ordinances and state laws and are asking for the community’s cooperation in keeping this Fourth of July holiday a safe one by not possessing or using any fireworks in Laguna Beach.

If you see or hear fireworks being used in Laguna Beach, call 9-1-1. Our dispatchers will alert officers to the area that the fireworks are occurring.
