LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – Laguna Beach High School (LBHS) Theatre invites audiences to a step into the enchanted world of Broadway’s modern classic, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast, The Broadway Musical” at the Laguna Beach High School Artists Theatre beginning Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self but time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
“Beauty and the Beast is a beloved tale, brought to life on stage with a generous helping of Disney magic,” said current Laguna Beach High School and Thurston Middle School Theatre Teacher and Director, Alexis Karol. “We’re very excited to share this enchanting production with our audiences,” she concluded.
An international sensation, the original Broadway production ran for over 13 years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. LBHS alumni Sabrina Harper and Celena DelPizzo-Howell join the cast as guest choreographer and director respectively.
The company of “Beauty and the Beast” includes over 50 LBHS student cast and crew members, as well as seven LBUSD elementary and middle school students. Tickets are on sale now at lbhs.booktix.com (Students $12 / Adults $17 / Premium $22). The performance is appropriate for all audiences.
