Fire season is upon us and the City of Laguna Beach is conducting a series of Evacuation Outreach events to help you be prepared if evacuation is necessary. In 2017 and 2018, several communities across California were impacted by wildfires and many of them had to evacuate their homes during those events.
Nearly all of the City of Laguna Beach and its surrounding 16,000 acres of open space are designated by CalFire as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. This designation underscores the significant risk in the City and recognizes the loss of 441 structures due to wildfire in 1993.
It is important that our residents understand their evacuations routes prior to the emergency. Download your neighborhood specific evacuation map at www.lagunabeachcity.net/evacuation.
The public is invited to attend the following Evacuation Outreach events. Transit representatives will also be in attendance to review Trolley use and transit routes in an emergency.
October 12th 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Fire Station 1 – 501 Forest Ave
October 16th 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Fire Station 3 – 2900 Alta Blvd
November 10th 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Fire Station 4 – 31646 2nd Ave
In July, the Laguna Beach City Council unanimously approved a Fire Mitigation and Safety Subcommittee Report and approved moving forward with its recommended action items. Those items include additional programs, mitigation measures, staffing and equipment needed to reduce the current level of high fire risk in Laguna Beach and further protect the City in the event of a wildfire.
