Police Alerting Public to Phone Scam
The Laguna Beach Police Department has recently been made aware of a phone scam that has been occurring throughout Orange County. The caller, aka “scammer,” tells the citizen that they need to provide the caller with their Social Security Number and various other information, or they will be arrested. The scammer has a heavy foreign accent and sometimes can have the caller ID show up as if it is the local police agency. Reminder that local law enforcement would never ask for your SSN or any other confidential information over the phone. If someone calls you and requests this information, please report it to police.
